India : Tatkal Passport for Minor

Hi Friends… I am dedicating this article to people who have suffered when they were in process of applying there child passport ( Like myself 😦 ). Please give you feed back and place you queries which I will try to answer thru my experience.
I will say this is a very simple and easy process especially in city like Bangalore but major problem is lack of information. No one out of passport office knows the correct process or what documents are needed to get minor passport. Those who know either don’t want to share or want to make easy money. When I contacted a Authorized passport agent he told that Normal application will cost me Rs 3100 and Tatkal will cost me Rs 3800.
Ques. Only Rs 700 extra to get the passport in just 7 days instead of 30 days sounds good. What is a problem then?.
Ans. Now I want to mention that there are no extra documents required to convert Minor passport from Normal application to Tatkal Application. Neither Annexure I nor Annexure F is required in case of Minors.
Ques. What is the process of applying fresh passport for Minor?
Ans. As I have processed my son passport in Bangalore at Bangalore1 center so I am giving the Step by step Process for the same.
Step 1) Go to http://passport.nic.in/ and click on Application form and Download Application Form No. 1 [ Hindi / English ] . ppapp.pdf
Step 2) Fill in first 4 pages of an application form. In case of minor please ignore the last 2 pages they are for police verification and police verification is not needed for minors.
Step 3) Collect the supported documents to submit in Bangalore 1 office.(as it is easy to submit the docs in B1 office)
Supported documents in case of minor.
i) Parents Passport photo copies. (Here we have a catch, You need to take care that one of the parent name must be there in other parent passport. for example either Father name should be there in Mother passport or Mother name should be there in Father passport.)
ii) Minor Birth certificate photo copy. (Photo copy must be attested for a gadgeted officer else photo copy is not valid)
iii) Address proof. (You can get the list of valid address proof documents on internet. Rental agreement is not acceptable. I have submitted my 12 month bank statement and CompanyAddress proof letter)
iv) Always keep extra photographs along with you.
Please carry all orignals with you. Now go to the any of the B1 center close to your place and submit the documents along with Rs 600. They will verify all documents and fill an application in there system, verify the details with you and give you the recipt with the file number.
Converting from normal application to tatkal application:
After a day or two Go to RPO, Kormangala along with the below documents
1) 1 Photograph of minor,
2) Rs 1500,
3) Photo copies of parent’s passport,
4) Photocopy of Minor birth certificate.
5) Hand written application, giving the reason to convert the passport from normal to tatkal ( I was not asked for this application, better keep this along with you)
6) Passport receipt from B1 office
When you will enter the RPO Kormangala, There is a tatkal window adjacent to inquiry window. Stand in the queue.(Don’t got to the long queue at the back that queue is for fresh passport application). When the window is about to open a police man will come and will give you Tatkal form. Fill in that form, paste an applicant photo on the form and wait for you turn. Officer will take your documents and verify them. If all documents are in proper shape, he will paste one slip(token) on your tatkal form and will ask you to go to first floor and meet one passport officer. He will sign your Tatkal application and put dispatch date on your Tatkal form and will tell you to go to counter X and submit the fee and collect the payment receipt.
Now you are all set to collect your child passport.

Minor’s passport : when one parent is aborad..
a) Need the affidavit by Parent staying abroad, Attested by the Consulate General of India. (Please find the affidavit details from the site of the applicable Consulate General of India, as each office has variations)
b) Need Annexure G got the Parent applying for Passport.

First of all, thanks a lot for this post as it really helped me a lot to get passport for my kid under Tatkaal scheme. It just took 8 days to get passport delivered after submission of application. That was really fast for me. I’d applied for passport of my 3 months old daughter in Pune PO. Thanks a lot to this Blog/ Roopak as well as to Sanjay Soni. Just to add few points to share my experience for minor’s passport under tatkaal scheme in Pune Passport office:
1. I would suggest to get your kid with you as security person may ask to see the kid if you give reason as minor’s passport application.
2. If you are submitting company letter as address proof, please ensure that you have ORIGINAL of same along with photocopy of your company ID and Original to cross verify. (I’d to rush back only for this reason and had to spent one hour extra)
3. They only took one set of application form (along with PP in duplicate) and supporting documents (as I am recollecting) however as suggested by Sanjay/ other, it would be good to carry two set of all documents and original for cross-verification (Must).
4. All photocopies should be self-attested (by both parents preferrably).
5. If parents passport are from different passport office, then ensure that sufficient address proof are available in Pune. You can also give Index 2 of registry as address proof.
6. No Need to take anyone’s help to go inside. (some agents may come to you). In Pune office, they have good arrangements to give preference to minors and senior citizens to go inside the office instead of getting into normal queue (That was really helpful as it is very dificult to stand in queue with small kids). Inside office, ofcourse, you need to get in queue but it is not more than 8-10 numbers.
7. Please ensure that parents sign at all pages where kids thumb impression require (except first page) as I’ve observed many to make this mistake.
8. If you want to trace the passport once you see the status as dispatched on passport office website (after 2-3 days of date of dispatch); just search the phone number of your nearby post office delivery point and try if they can update you if they’ve received any passport for delivery. Unfortunately, the registration number given on website doesn’t help to track the passport delivery.
9. It took me Rs600 + Rs. 1500 (for Tatkaal Scheme) + Rs. 200 for affidavit (Annexure I) in total. No need to pay extra money to any agent. Thanks to our govt. and passport office to make the process easy.

First of all no need to carry the baby with you to the office, either father and mother’s presence is sufficient.
No need to pay extra money to any agent as they will charge 4000-6000 Rs. and your presence is also required. (I will suggest at least try once by yourself)
I went to submit application of passport of my 2 months old baby in Pune passport office. Just following things were required:
Documents:–
1) Fill the form online (they are not accepting normal forms). Fill all the details. Parents need to sign aside wherever thumb impression is required (OTHER THEN THE FIRST PAGE IN THE BOX, ONLY BABY’S THUMBIMPRESSION SHOULD BE THERE), fill PP forms also.
2) Annex I is required (parents and baby’s photo required) (can be obtained by any advocate (Notary) outside the passport office @250 Rs.)
3) Annexure H (on normal paper) download from official site.
4) Marriage certificate
5) Passport of both the parents where spouse name should be embossed in either one.
6) Birth certificate of child
7) three address proof (refer official site of passport)
8) Handwritten application to convert the application as ‘out of turn’ (Tatkal) describing reason.
Take two copies of the 1-7 documents and should be signed by both the parents. Make two sets, and carry originals with you for verification.
Procedure: —-
1) fill the form online and submit and take printout, the date and time will be printed on the side of the form.
2) reach the office with the entire document at least 1/2 hour before the time. (Time doesn’t matters as I have observed 12:30 appointee to came at 9:00)
(the office is really very well managed and no need to pay any extra amount to any agent to by pass the line as I was the 40-50th person but my turn came within 10-15 minutes. they will refer you to counter no. 7 in case of pune)
3) On the counter they will check all the document and then forward to fee counter (usually no need to meet with passport officer).
4) pay the fee i.e. 600+1500 Rs.
You will get the passport within 8 days. It can also be tracked online (mostly does not have updated info)

I had gone to the RPO today to submit the Tatkal conversion form. Unfortunately, the counter lady insisted that I bring my son also (he is around one year old). So, I had to come back with him. Anyways, all went well afterwards and I am set to get his passport next week hopefully.
I guess the requirement of the minor’s presence (or for that matter any other requirement) varies on the whims and fancies of the persons at the counter

i ) There is a free assistance booth on the back side of the passport office(Bangalore RPO) . They will help you sort your docs and prepare the app if required. This will save you time of scrutiny.
ii ) Inside the office(Bangalore RPO) too there is a scrutiny desk where an official will check and advise you on the documents.

Learnings for Me :-
1. I was over confident in filling the application form properly and realized few mistakes even while in the line and while scrutinizing it at home. I say it would help a great deal to check the application form 3 to 4 times as there are chances of some information missing and that one mistake is enough to ruin all the hard work done by you for atleast 3 to 4hrs
2. Carry all possible documents which can prove that you reside at following address. Sometimes its about convincing the passport personnel inspite of having all the documents as per the website, as there are chances of some last minute modifications. Like since 16th April’11 their is no Tatkal 8-14 days option , all we have is option 1 where in work will be done in 7 days , but this information is missing in the website.
3. Before applying myselfi went through 2 agents. 1st one was not at all professional in handling things and i skipped him in the last minute. Next one made me feel comfortable but while striking the deal an applicant who went through this agent walked in to office to put across his point that inspite of paying 3000INR for normal passport he wasn’t provided any help at all and he confessed openly that their is no use of going through agent, as they will still make you stand in line and stll submit the application on your own, then where is the point of getting it done quickly through an agent. That incident has put me in to 2nd thoughts and made me put some more effort in finding out the information from all possible sources. Lesson is their are hundred people around us who encourage to get it done through agents, but at the same time their are thousand others who enable us to get it done without agent and unknoingly helping us fight corruption. Choice is ours.

Experience at Pune’s Passport Office:
A super smooth experience (except for waiting in the queue, which is fine).
Reached Passport Office at: 7:25AM (I was 19th in the queue)
Entered sharp at: 10AM (Inside the office, I was the 2nd one in the queue for Minors)
There’s a seperate window for minors and government officials.
Submitted application and Was out at: 10:15AM !!
Documents I submitted:
1. Baby’s Birth Certificate
2. Electricity Bill (Recent and a year and a half old)
3. Mother’s Bank Statement (Original Submitted)
4. Anexure H on plain paper (signed by both Mother & Father)
5. 1st and Last Page photocopies of Father’s passport.
6. Application Reciept of the Mother’s new passport.
7. 1st and Last Page photocopies of Mother’s old passport.
Key Notes:
1. All photocopies should be self-attested (by both parents preferrably).
2. Take two copies of the documents. Make two sets, and carry originals with you for verification.

5. No need to cross sign or take cross thumb impressions on any of the photos.
6. ECNR required : YES for minors. IN category use ‘M’ (which is for all children below 18 years of age).
7. Fill NA/No for all fields which not applicable. Try not to leave a field blank.
8. Only 3 photos were needed, i.e. the ones that were pasted on the forms.
For my case they said that police verification will happen as the address on both the parents passport is not the current one. Though my wife has already applied for a new passport (with the new name after marriage and the new address), but we haven’t received the new passport yet.
Its a super simple and a super smooth process. Please DO NOT go for agents !
FYI:
I unnecessarily had made Annexure I which was not needed. I believe it is needed only for Tatkal Applications.
FAQ :
Q 1 . What will happen if parents name does not match in Passport and Birth certificate.
(e.g. On Passport it is Anil Kumar Kapoor , and On Birth Cert if it is Anil Kapoor)
A. In case of Minor, Names on Parents Passport are valid name.
Q 2 . In Case either husband or wife dont have there name in others passport but they have “Nikah Nama” or a marriage certificate with translation in english.
A. Yes My dear frns this is a process even in case you are carrying your Marriage certificate with you. Still You need to take care that one of the parent name must be there in other parent passport. for example either Father name should be there in Mother passport or Mother name should be there in Father passport.
Q 3 . Can I check online status for karnataka.
A. In General you can go to http://passport.gov.in/ and check the status of your passport online. there is an option ” Status page” Please select the city where you have applied and check the status.
Q 4 : We stay outside Bangalore, and I need to apply for my 1 month old son’s passport through Tatkal. Do i need to take all my documents to RPO on the same day and also apply for tatkal there?
A : If you have all docs along with you then I will suggest you to take online tatkal appointment if it is available in your city and go to RPO this will make you work and efforts easy else you go eary and stand in a queue. Yes you can get it done on same day. Your presence will be enough
Q 5 : I wanted to ask whether childs presence is required for tatkal passport or not? Since my baby is just 10 days old, can I avail tatkal facility without my child’s presence.
A : One of the government FAQ site says : It is okay if either of the parents submits the application of a minor child. Baby need not be present if application is not under out-of-turn/Tatkal scheme.
Q 6 : We(me and my wife) both didnt have spouse name in our passport so I have applied for inclusion of spouse name in the passport. I have a small doubt again. Can we now apply for minors passport within this time window?In the passport site they have mentioned that if the parent has applied for passport they can mention their file reference number? Your thoughts on this?
A : The passport authorities will accept the baby’s application by showing your passport and your spouse file number stating that you had already applied for inclusion of spouse name. So even if you have applied for spouse name inclusion, you could still go about applying for a minor passport.
Q 7 : We are planning to apply for a passport for my 1yr old daughter. We are presently staying in Bangalore and the same address in not present in either of mine or my wife passport. We have a running bank account on my daughter’s name. Is it sufficient that if we produce this as a address proof, or should we mention any one of the address present on our passport.
A : There is no need to mention the address which is there on your passport. If you have any bank account in your or your wife name and the address mentioned in your bank is your current residential address then you can use that for residential proof. you need to submit last 12 mnths statement of your bank account.
Q 8 : can u tell me where should I apply for my 6 month old baby in Mumbai.
A : I am not sure if Mumbai has any utility center as Bangalore has. If not you please directly go to Passport office and apply there or googling is the best option to find more info with respect to your city 🙂
Q 9 : I was told that I will get my minor daughter passport on 14 may but when I saw the status they are telling passport will be dispatched on 8 june -2009.
A : When you have applied for tatkal, Passport officer might have write the dispatch date on the receipt or the token, Please check what date (s)he has mentioned. If the date mentioned is 14May then keep watch on the status till 14th else I will suggest you to go to RPO and complain.
If they will dispatch on 14th May you will be receiving passport in next 2 days. I will suggest some one to be at home else tracking will be difficult again.
Q 10 : You have mentioned, company address proof letter? What that mean? Means to submitt compnay address proof. But one has to mention its residence proof and do i need to submit attested coppy of all pages of my passport.
A : Correct, you need to get company address proof with your residence address mentioned on that. And they(Company) have to mention that you are residing on this address from past one year and You only need to submit the first and last page of your passport and no need to attest them….
Q 11 : I checked with agent and they say if one has marriage certificate then no need to enter spouse name in othr passport.
A : I am not sure if marriage certificate will do. Its an advice please confirm from passport office on this else there might be delay in your process.
Q 12 : When you convert the normal application to Tatkal, is it required to take an online appointment for the purpose or just standing in the queue would do? I could not find a separate category for Tatkal in the online token registration site.
A : Not required to take an online appointment. When you will enter the RPO Kormangala, There is a tatkal window adjacent to inquiry window. Stand in the queue.[ Please refer last para before “Inputs from friends”]
Q 13 : In case of a minor child passport, whose father is abroad, whether consent is to be obtained to apply for a passport? If so, what is the procedure?
Ans. Yes. Consent of the spouse, who is abroad, is required for submitting the application. It should be in the form of a Sworn Affidavit duly attested by the Indian Embassy/Consulate abroad.

I have another question: even when one parent is abroad, will the signature of both the parents be required on the pp application form or just one parent’s would do? Also, what is the procedure for attestation of the passport copy of the parent who is abroad?

I have online tatkal appointment next tuesday. we stay 150kms from Hyd passport office. I was browsing all passport sites and thankfully found great FAQs in banaglore passport site(which no other city mentions such good FAQs). For tatkal passport in FAQs they clearly mention for presence of baby. Iam just confused whether do we really need to bring and show our 2 months old baby. Kindly reply yar.. Btw I have done all my passport documentation based on your blog, it seems to be perfect.

I got my infant pasport just yesterday infant presence was not needed in Bangalore. My advice would be keep one letter of authorization stating on behalf of your wife that she is allowing to apply infant’s passport. I kept it ready but it was not asked for.

There should not be any problem due to location difference of issue of your and your husband ‘s password as the same was the case with mine so this is not a show stoper. You name should be there in your husband passport or vise versa…..

Thanks for the info. Thanks to all the information provided by various applicants in this website and special thanks to Roopak for initiating this blog, i have successfully applied for my kids Tatkal passport on 25th April’11, was that a huge achievement, i don’t think so , but i would say its not an easy task either.
If not for this blog i would have ended up in giving the application to an agent who ends up making easy money and increase corruption. When i went to a notary in chinchwad -pune on 24th Apr’11, i wass given free advice of getting “Affidavit I” done by an agent and give the passport application to an agent as they are well aware of the minute details of getting it done sucessfully. I was very diplomatically discouraged to get it done on my own.
I once again gained confidence by going through the posts i this blog and decided to dig deep and try it myself instead of conceding defeat to the whole network of agents. Got affidavit I done by 8:30PM on a sunday and went to passport office by 7AM on 25th April’11, was sent to the counter by 11AM. faced a minor issue here as the order of application documents are not proper.
In Pune office all they is one set of application with the top 4 pages and then all Xerox copies attached to it. Another set with 2 copies of “Personal particulars form (In Duplicate)” which should have all the Xerox copies attached to it. No need of 2nd set of “passport application form No.1” as on 25th April in Pune office. This small mistake has set me back by another hour [ was asked to join the line in the middle, after putting documents in order].
Surpisingly Minor passport line was lengthy when compared to other line [ does that show the 1.2 billion population effect of India?].

Lack of information about government departments is a big problem in India.

we obtain passport under tatkal for my 2 child in 15 july( one is 1 year and second is 5 year a month back). but police came to verify my home address we r not preset …does we have to summit our child passport..can we travel abroad ? we have not receive any notice from passport office yet

I don’t believe that you need to submit the passport. For Kids there is not police verification required.

Thanks Naveen Kapoor for your valuable information, I think rules are to be same for document submission whether Bangalore, Hyderabad or Mumbai. Though you have kind enough who has given sufficient information at the same you may be reading like minded replies. So repeat your same information by adding few more points to it. some time passport office ask for VC Verification Certificate in Hyderabad and another thing why we need 12 Months statement for address and Id proof some time people not stay on the same address passport office should have alternative rules. If you agree ok otherwise update my information.

I need to apply passport of my 2 year old son in tattkal as I need it urgenlty. Myself and my wife have passports, my name is included in my wife’s passport. Both the possports have Madurai resindential address and got it from Madurai passport office, but currently we stay in Hyderabad.
Recently I enquired to apply passport for my son, I have been told that myself and my wife should go to Madurai passport office and apply there for my son as our passport have madurai address, also surprised that they will be delivering the my son’s passport to Madurai address only kind of stuffs..
Is it true? Can’t apply here in Hyderabad office itself? if I can apply in hyderabad itself then just can I follow steps that you mentioned?.
I am just bit confused, why should I go to Madurai as we have onilne facitlity etc.. …its really strange.
Can you advice on this.

As off I know You can apply for Passport any where, either in H’bad or in Madurai. I am saying this from my experience.. Mine and my wife’s Passports are from 2 different places (One from UP and One from Punjab) and we have applied for our son’s passport in Bangalore. and I believe the steps should be same(This process is 2 yrs old ).

Yes, as informed correctly by Naveen, parents passport issue location is not an issue for applying for their childs passport from a different 3rd location, as long as the one of the parent can produce address proof from the 3rd location.
Mine & my wife passports are from Hyderabad and we applied both our kid passports in pune office, successfully, with my address proofs from pune.

First of all thank you all “Netizens” for really valuable guidance. This guidance gives us confidence to do this work without agent.
I would like to put up even my experience to get passport of my daughter in tatkal, which will be helpful to my fellow Indians.
I filled up form online and got the date on some Monday 10AM. To my dismay when I had seen the PDF for passport form it was not even filled half by the information I had provided.
1. In given name ‘father’s name’ doesn’t appear.
2. Birthdate in words missing.
3. In spite of being minor, fee amount is Rs. 1000/- by default.
4. Even if we fill the same address as present , in permanent entire address get printed. They expect us only to write the ‘Same’.
5. There is no selection for fresh / reissue /lost etc passport.
6. In personal particular form also at one place your telephone numbers comes, at another place it doesn’t.
7. Fonts differ.
It appears like some half backed C-DAC/NIC and ‘babus’ from passport department has done little effort to implement the system with as usual double money paid but not even half work done. Now I have heard that the entire system is given to TCS. Let’s see what TCS brings to the table. It’s a shame for our country(IT giant) that even simple data entry kind work is done so badly. A bottom line expectation is nothing except signature to be done by hand. All applicable and non-applicable filed should be filled out by our input or as Not Applicable. With TCS on board we expect to upload scanned document in enclosures. Why to carry any paper?
I would like to share one tip for those who are at all well conversant with PC for filling the form of passport. You may already be aware that the forms which we save locally after filling out data is ‘Secured’; so you can’t edit it in PDF professional. There are simple programs available to crack the PDF password on net. This will remove the security and then you will be able to edit the form without any problem.
Now save this PDF form with new name to play with it. You can remove all filled out data like name of applicant etc. by Advance Editing> touch up text tool. Then run start form wizard. Run it on currently open PDF. You will get blocks for filling out text. Close form editing wizard.
Now start filling out the entire form in PDF professional. Still don’t worry about the font and the size. Once you get everything filled, go back in form wizard and edit the boxes where you want to modify the font and/or sizes. Then close form editing and come out. You have got your form filled without touching the pen.
Now get the form signed/thumbed after you get hardcopy. Yes on the first page baby’s thumb impression is required within box. Don’t worry much about the quality of the thumb impression. They are also asking us because it was required. On all other pages, where signature is asked parent’s signature is also required. On last two forms of PPF, I had taken baby’s thumb across photo with thumb at bottom of the form.
Most interesting part of the story starts at the compound of passport office. Don’t get scared of the queue, may range from 150 to 300 people on normal day. There were more than one queue. I simply asked which one to join. Unknowingly I started chatting with some front Enders of the passport application queue, and never thought of append the queue. They kept on asking me the questions about how to fill the details. They came here before 6AM. After sometime when they started taking us inside, I realized that I had not followed the queue. But when I seen some unexpected guest like politicians, agents cutting the queue to get inside, I stopped regretting for not appending queue. Got token for the day and been inside on C4 meant for minor. Now here when I followed our government website, I didn’t brought ‘Annexure –I’. As per website it is written if your child is above 15 years or mother and father don’t have passport then only it is required. Clerk told me to issue regular passport, but I told him I want tatkal and bringing that ‘Annexure-I’. I have been to C9 for inquiry and described the case. He asked me, do you want tatkal passport, then annexure-I is required; end of argument.
The best thing about the agents is they already aware where you will stumble. On the next shop they are hanging plate ‘Annexure-I’. The corner shop who has good terms with all passport officials, some Mr. Kale is doing brisk business of giving Rs. 20/- stamp paper ‘Annexure-I’ and looting applicants with Rs. 250/-. That too appears like he obliges on us. He ask us to fill out some details on a pri-printed format, then get the print of your Annexure-I. First he print back side of the paper got our signs, fixed stamps, he signed. After this he prints front page after asking us to verify details. He wanted signatures to be done in his presence, so I had to bring my wife. Otherwise you know what we we do!
Now everything was checked and stamped inside office, another surprise was waiting for me. Being minor’s passport I didn’t filled PPF forms. I bluffed that it appears like I lost it, and came next day after printing it. The official denied accepting it telling you have to take token in the morning.
Next day I came little earlier, somewhere around 9AM. Queue was long as usual. Dirty mind was exploring to cut it and get in. But today I was awakened, honestly joined queue and got in after around 12. Yes for sure my mind attacked my conscience whenever I had seen somebody like big shots or agents taking any body inside. I got token and been inside the office, seen long queue at C4. Clock was ticking. The time was 12.15PM. Again my mind started working, to counter that hour or two wasted by by-passers. Suddenly I realized, I have nothing to do except pay fee as everything was already checked. My number from counter would be around 20th. The lunch break was hanging. I just cut the line and gone inside. Few people tried to shout, but I had shown them everything is done, just I need to pay and go. They allowed me. Now there were already two applicants, I was third standing. He accepted the application from the first and gone for break. I was thinking that I was just late by two applicants. Hoped that, he may return in some time because it was only 12.20PM. After around big 400 seconds he came back to seat. He accepted application from another applicant. Now it was my turn. He seen my form, stamps for tatkal and checked, asked me what the problem was. I told him my PPF were lost now I got back. OK …OK…, show me your originals, I shown him birth certificate, and marriage certificate. He asked passports please. I gave him. …mother’s name is not changed, huh?.. I replied, marriage certificate is attached. …OK… He printed the receipt for Rs. 600/-. I gave him Rs.2100/-….Want tatkal?….Yes, I said… , He printed another receipt and it was end of application procedure. I was out at 12.38PM, before their lunch break.
I had seen not less than three agents within 3 meters. One was tearing up receipts in bulk and stapling it to forms, looking around in between. Another tall man from that kiosk of Mr. Kale with bag labelled ‘Passport Man’ written on that, who had entered gate with giving 8 times folded note of Rs.100/- to the Hindi speaking blue shirt watchman, who guards the door.
A simple question comes in my mind that why this passport people don’t get QMS(Queue Management System) like some Railway reservation counters or may be banks like ICICI or simply wants easy bucks from agents.

First of all, thanks a lot for this post as it really helped me a lot to get passport for my kid under Tatkaal scheme. It just took 8 days to get passport delivered after submission of application. That was really fast for me. I’d applied for passport of my 3 months old daughter in Pune PO. Thanks a lot to this Blog/ Roopak as well as to Sanjay Soni. Just to add few points to share my experience for minor’s passport under tatkaal scheme in Pune Passport office:
1. I would suggest to get your kid with you as security person may ask to see the kid if you give reason as minor’s passport application.
2. If you are submitting company letter as address proof, please ensure that you have ORIGINAL of same along with photocopy of your company ID and Original to cross verify. (I’d to rush back only for this reason and had to spent one hour extra)
3. They only took one set of application form (along with PP in duplicate) and supporting documents (as I am recollecting) however as suggested by Sanjay/ other, it would be good to carry two set of all documents and original for cross-verification (Must).
4. All photocopies should be self-attested (by both parents preferrably).
5. If parents passport are from different passport office, then ensure that sufficient address proof are available in Pune. You can also give Index 2 of registry as address proof.
6. No Need to take anyone’s help to go inside. (some agents may come to you). In Pune office, they have good arrangements to give preference to minors and senior citizens to go inside the office instead of getting into normal queue (That was really helpful as it is very dificult to stand in queue with small kids). Inside office, ofcourse, you need to get in queue but it is not more than 8-10 numbers.
7. Please ensure that parents sign at all pages where kids thumb impression require (except first page) as I’ve observed many to make this mistake.
8. If you want to trace the passport once you see the status as dispatched on passport office website (after 2-3 days of date of dispatch); just search the phone number of your nearby post office delivery point and try if they can update you if they’ve received any passport for delivery. Unfortunately, the registration number given on website doesn’t help to track the passport delivery.
9. It took me Rs600 + Rs. 1500 (for Tatkaal Scheme) + Rs. 200 for affidavit (Annexure I) in total. No need to pay extra money to any agent. Thanks to our govt. and passport office to make the process easy.

Need advice.
I applied for my 4 month old daughter’s passport (Ordinary) on 15th Nov 2011 at Thane passport office. Passport website showed status that it will be dispatched by 30th Nov 2011.So, i was relaxed.
To my surprise; i received call from local police station on 29th nov 2011 for police verification (I was under impression that this is not needed for minors…)
After this now passport office status website shows message as
“It is to regret that due to unavoidable circumstances the despatch of Passport has been delayed and will now be despatched in a week’s time”
Its already a week since then ans we dont have passport yet. I enquired with the police after verification and he mentioned that it will take 20 more days.
I am geting desparate now as we have to travel by Dec end and have to process Visa for baby yet.
I was informed by couple of friends that for minors ordinary and tatkal application doesnot make much difference and hence I made an ordinary application.
If I now convert to tatkal; will it help. Please advice.

I have to apply for a fresh passport of my one month old baby born in Gulbarga(Karnataka) which is my native place but the address in my passport is of Bengaluru and in my husband’s passport also have different address.Presently I am residing abroad with my husband. Can i give asdress of my native place i.e; Gulbarga as permanent address for my baby’s passport? would that create a problem when applying passport? Please clarify in this regard.

Passport applciation for Minor.
Experience at Pune’s Passport Office:
A super smooth experience (except for waiting in the queue, which is fine).
Reached Passport Office at: 7:25AM (I was 19th in the queue)
Entered sharp at: 10AM (Inside the office, I was the 2nd one in the queue for Minors)
There’s a seperate window for minors and government officials.
Submitted application and Was out at: 10:15AM !!
Documents I submitted:
1. Baby’s Birth Certificate
2. Electricity Bill (Recent and a year and a half old)
3. Mother’s Bank Statement (Original Submitted)
4. Anexure H on plain paper (signed by both Mother & Father)
5. 1st and Last Page photocopies of Father’s passport.
6. Application Reciept of the Mother’s new passport.
7. 1st and Last Page photocopies of Mother’s old passport.
Key Notes:
1. All photocopies should be self-attested (by both parents preferrably).
2. Take two copies of the documents. Make two sets, and carry originals with you for verification.
3. Parents need to sign aside wherever thumb impression is required (OTHER THAN THE FIRST PAGE IN THE BOX, ONLY BABY’S THUMB IMPRESSION SHOULD BE THERE).
4. Make sure you fill the 2 PP forms too.
5. No need to cross sign or take cross thumb impressions on any of the photos.
6. ECNR required : YES for minors. IN category use ‘M’ (which is for all children below 18 years of age).
7. Fill NA/No for all fields which not applicable. Try not to leave a field blank.
8. Only 3 photos were needed, i.e. the ones that were pasted on the forms.
For my case they said that police verification will happen as the address on both the parents passport is not the current one. Though my wife has already applied for a new passport (with the new name after marriage and the new address), but we haven’t received the new passport yet.
Its a super simple and a super smooth process. Please DO NOT go for agents !
FYI:
I unnecessarily had made Annexure I which was not needed. I believe it is needed only for Tatkal Applications.

You can still apply for the minors passport. The only thing is that mothers name in minors passport will be mothers maiden name. This may be a problem if u change ur wifes surname later, as then u will have to get the mothers name updated in the minors passport. I suggest changing mothers surname first and then applying for minors passport.

My Daughter is now 11. She was born at Sharjah-U.A.E. & has got the Birth-Certificate from Ministry of Health-Sharjah-U.A.E. We are settled at Pune-India from July 2007 till now. Her Indian Passport issued at Dubai-U.A.E. got expired during July’2011.
Her name on her expired passport appears: ONLY HER FIRST NAME
instead of normal fashion of: First Name – Father’s Name – Surname.
This is because it was so recorded in her Birth Certificate at Sharjah.
Please Advise on procedure to obtain now an Indian Passport for her at Pune.

I was trying to fill my 2month old son’s application online. In the “Present Residential address details” header in the “Residing Since” column, as soon as I fill Jan 2012 (when my baby was born), I am prompted to fill “Earlier residential address” as a compulsory field. I guess the software is programmed to verify only whether applicant has stayed in “Present Address” for less than 1 year, with no over-ride for Minors below 1 year. And it is not allowing to save/submit the form without filling “Earlier address”!!!
Was wondering if other applicants have faced similiar probelm and what is the solution to this?

I submitted application for Tatkal passport of my baby on 13th March 2012 at Nagpur and I received it today. Receiving passport on the afternoon of 2nd day of application at Home was a unique and superfast experience from any Government office till today.
I attached the following to application form-
Birth Certificate
Annexure H (For a minor verification does not happen so no Annexure F, Annexure I is required only if parents do not have passport)
Address proof for permanent and current address
Mother and Father passport copy
Photos

I did not submit it and they did not ask it. I submitted my and my wife’s passport copies. It is stated in their website that Annex- I is required in case only both of the parents do not have passports.
It is not clear though what happens if only one of them has passport.

Thanks for the information… Issue is if you call the customer care of the PSK they themselves are not very clear about the required documents. It took 3 appointments for me to get the correct required documents for my passport. and they don’t tell about all the missing documents in one go. It was difficult for me to understand what improvement they have done in process by introducing PSKs as it took me 8 hrs to complete the process. But, people told me it is much better than the old days where they use to stand in queues from morning 4 A.M. to get the tokens.

First of all i would like to thank Naveen for a useful blog post and other fellow bloggers who have updated the details till recently.
I am applying passport for my 3months old baby. Now I am little confused about the Annexure – I requirement. Naveen had mentioned at the start of his post that for minor takal passport application this is not required. However I see others have included this document in the list of documents submitted. eg: The most recent update from Amit.
Is every one attaching this document to avoid any last minute Hazel or do they really ask for it in the counter?

1. My passport is in maiden name. On my son’s passport application do I mention married name or maiden name?

Re query #1 – forgot to mention, my child’s birth certificate has my married name and also husband’s passport is endorsed with my married name. Only my passport still has my maiden name.

I have applied for my 3 month old baby at Pune RPO last week. Like other’s mentioned the experience is very smooth. I didn’t take my baby with me and I applied in tatkal.
If you take your baby with you then you don’t need to stand in the line (before reaching the counter) for many hours and you can directly get in to the passport office. Though there is a separate counter (counter 5) for Mothers , the same counter is catering to senior citizen too. Hence when I filed last week there was around 10 ppl in th counter 5 and in counter 4 (minor passport) I was the first person!!!. I form submission got done with in 15min and I was out of passport office by 10.45 itself.
Note: I was asked for the Annexure-I. Though it doesn’t make sense to fill in Annexure-I for infants, that’s the procedure it seems

I understood from above blogs (thanks a lot to everyone who guided) that I will need affidavit from Indian consulate.
But my question is regarding which Annexure does my wife needs to fill in India? Annexure G, H or I ?

Hi all, I am a single mum and unfortunately cannot contact baby’s father. I went to london high commission with all documents mentioned on the hci london website. These documents include original parent passport, leave to remain, baby’s birth certificate issued by council, notarized affidavits stating that i am a single mum and that baby hasnt attained foreign nationality and birth registration forms and passport application forms filled. Need to submit photocopies of all these documents except application forms. I went in the early morning in the chilly weather just to secure a token in time so that I am one among the 100 tokens issued for passport services and consular services. The officer to whom I submitted my documents rushed through them and directed me to the “very famous” – should say “notorious” rather – Counter No. 7. The lady officer in that counter took my documents and asked me to wait. She comes like around 15 mins later and says she had a discussion with her boss and said “No, we cannot issue a passport for your baby” I asked but why? and she said because you are a single mum. We do not issue passports to babies with single mums. I said what documents do you need then? She says apply for divorce, get it and then bring the document, we will issue a passport. I requested her to provide me a letter stating so; this would enable me to procure a one way travel document from home office. This lady says no, we cant issue you anything!!! DOES IT MAKE ANY SENSE ANYONE???
its so ridiculous and so disrespectful how these officers behave. They are just a bunch of idiots who know nothing but has a website which states everything. I literally spent £170 to obtain two affidavits as said on their good-for-nothing website which only misleads people.
I have even heard my friends say that they even refuse to renew passports and ask people to take fake passports and travel.

I have already passport before marriage and now I get married so I want to make my wife passport(under process)so her name is not in my passport but at my wife passport my name is include.so is it necessary to re issue my passport with my wife name included for going abroad.Is there any problems without my wife name on my passport for going abroad .my passport validity is upyo 2019.

hie roopak…thanx for all the information…i have two doubts…
1)my baby is just 7 weeks old..to take her to passport office will b very tedious…can i go alone ?
2)v live in a rental house…so the address on my passport and my husbands passport is different…will that b a problem?

Just before 3 days I got my passport after re-issued by the Pune Passport office,Now I am trying to apply passport for my 6 month old baby by the passport portal http://passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/welcomeLink
I observed the length of the address field is only 36 character ( so miserable) and now the funny part is still waiting , the address field for the references is more than 100 character. (Don’t understand the logic here)
Next part is that, since my baby is only 6 month old and I am staying on this address from past 18 months, still the website want my previous address details along with the 2 references, which was not required even when I was applying for my passport. I do not understand the actual logic, what was in thought while designing this process.

in case of being a single parent separated from husband,how can i apply for my minor kid’s passport…no legal court document of dis separation is with me…can any affidavit help me for dis? i ve d photocopy of kid’s birth certificate but not d original…cant even get d original….please guide me ASAP

I have already taken an appointment at Pune Passport office for Tatkal passport for my 1year old kid. Query is : My wife’s passport is in old name(before marriage). Her name after marriage is endorsed in my passport. Is it valid provided I submit all the necessary documents for this problem: marriage certificate, name-changed-gazette copy

Hi,
My passport is in my maiden name (ABC XYZ) and my husband’s passport has my name endorsed with the married name (ABC PQR). For my son’s tatkal passport application we submitted the application with my married name (ABC PQR) along with the marriage certificate copy. That much was sufficient without any additional documentation. Hope this answers your query. All the best!

Yes, it was submitted at the Pune RPO in April 2012. We got the passport within 2 weeks of submitting the application.

Passport applciation for Minor in normal way
.
Experience at Chennai Passport Office:
We filled the passport application online and took the print out with us. We did not sign in the application form or take his finger print.
It was a super smooth experience at Tambaram PSK Chennai.
We went on 2nd november 2012 around 10.30 A.M and no prior appointment needed for minors.
There’s a seperate window for minors and reissue of passport. Only the first place had a queue and we waited for 10 mins and the person verified the docs and gave us a folder then we went to second place waited for 5 mins and the person gave the token no and asked us to go upstairs. Both the parents were allowed inside in our case( our son 6mnths old). We went to the A counter details were verified and they asked for 1 photo and scanned that.Asked us to pay the fees RS.1000 and they asked us to verify every details that would be printed on the passport and took his thum print in appln. And asked to wait for our turn for B Counter. 5 mins waiting time then verified all the originals. Asked to go to C counter. Here we waited for 10 mins cause the previous person was taking a long time. Then the person verified all asked for the fee receipt. And it took around 5-10 mins. Finally she told us u will get in 7 days. I said it’s not tatkal but again she said u’ll get in 1 week. We thanked her. And near the exit we have to give the token sheet and fee receit amd they give u a print out.
Submitted application and Was out at: 11.15.
It was a super simple process.
Documents I submitted:
1. Baby’s Birth Certificate
2. Father’s passport with spouse name endosed.
3. Mother’s passport with spouse name endorsed.(has a different address)
4. Anexure H on plain paper (signed by both Mother & Father)
5. 1st and Last Page photocopies of both Mother’s and Father’s passport.
Key Notes:
1. All photocopies should be self-attested (by either parents).
2. Take two copies of the documents. Make two sets, and carry originals with you for verification.
3.only 1 photo was needed but do carry extra ones.

For my case they said no police verification .
And we got the passport on 7th November2012. No needed to go for tatkal also.
Its a super simple and a super smooth process. Please DO NOT go for agents !

Passport applciation for reissue of passport with address change normal way .
Experience at Chennai Passport Office:
Filled the online application and took appointment on 2nd nobember 2012 at 11.00 A.M. at Tambaram PSK.
they allow only 5 mins before the appointment time.
We went around 10.30 A.M we went inside as we had to apply for the minor also. for my son it took around 40 mins and we came inside again showing my appointment slip and my husband also accompanied me with my son(6mnths old).this time we waited in the initial queue for 20 mins.and the person verified the documents she gave back the application form. took only the copies of the document and gave us a folder. We went inside the second place here it took some time around 30 mins for getting the token. (highest spent time) Finally I got the token went to counter A they took my picture and then verified all the details asked us to verify all the details and asked to pay the fees RS.1500. took finger prints and thum prints. Then asked me to go to the B Counter. within 2mins we went to B Counter and here the person asked me to give the old passport and supporting docs. She asked me for second photo id with the same address. I did not have any with our new address.(My driver license and bank passbook had my mom’s address) I gave my spouse’s passport which has my name endorsed. she said she needed one more document I gave Ration card. She wanted photo id. i said I do not have any. She was little rude. My son started crying…the person next to her said it is valid id and for normal way this is enough. then she signed and asked us to go to C counter. Then we went to C counter and she verified all documents and she asked for the fee receipt and then she said you ‘ll get in 7 days. Thanked her. We gave the token slip and got the printout at the exit.
Submitted application and Was out at: 12:35PM !! t
Please take all possible photo ids with the same address, in the website they have any one will do and only for ration card they needed a supporting document. but they ask for ration card so please carry all possible photo proofs with relevant address.
Documents I submitted:
1.My original passport
2.Spouse’s original Passport
3.Ration card
4. 1st and Last Page photocopies of Spouse’s passport.
5. 1st and Last Page photocopies of my passport.
6. Copy of ration card
Documents I took With Me( all in spouse’s name) they didn’t ask me.
1. Electricity Bill (Recent and a year and a half old)
2. Gas consumer book and Bill (Recent and a year and a half old)
3.Telephone bill(Recent and a year and a half old)
Key Notes:

Hello,
We are US citizens (naturalized), origin of India, staying in US.
From an orphanage in India we adopted a child. The indian court has granted guardianship instead of adoption status. We are going to India and apply for the child’s passport in Tatkal scheme in India. I have the following questions regarding that:
– Since the court has issuued guardianship, can we apply the passport in Tatkal scheme?
– And, what are all the documents necessary to apply the passport in India?

I am baswd in bangalore. II got my 4 mth old baby passport in a weeks time through thakkal . Got the police verification done too needless to say had to bribe him!!
after about 2 moths I get a call sayn his police verification form is rejected. How can it be I clearly remember everything was right I crossed checked ot twice . what ge says is he had by mistake mentioned the year from wen I reside in tht address to be his birth year….. How can it be possible wen I clearly remember his his birthdate was right n the rest of the form to….. Looks like he is taking me for a ride ….. Help what should I do…. Itseems I hv to go bk to d station a give a statement tht he was born on bla bla date n yr. His birth certificate was also attached . Looks like he is trying to make some money . is dr a way I can find out the my sons police verification is through ….. Cz I already hv the passport with me

Looking for some guidance for Tatkal Passport from the experienced people in this forum:
I have a valid passport issued in Kolkata. My wife has a passport issued in Bangalore, which is about to expire. This was before marriage. Currently I am staying in Pune since last 6 months. Prior to this I was staying in Delhi. Now I have got a daughter who is 4 months old and born in Pune. My requirements are as below for which I need guidance which I am not getting clearly anywhere.
1. My wife’s passport to be reissued with Pune address and Spouse Name needs to be added
2. Fresh passport for my daughter to be issued in Pune
I am staying in rented place in Pune since last 6 months and I have address proofs in the form of Telephone Bills, HDFC Bank Statement and Employer Letter. My wife has only HDFC Bank Statement for her account. Since both mine and my wife’s bank accounts are old and the addresses got updated, I can get 12 month statement with same new address.
In my passport my wife’s name is already added.
Now I want to get Tatkal passport issued for my daughter and Tatkal passport reissued for my wife since I am planning to go abroad in Feb13.
My queries as below:
1. Is the above situation permits me applying for fresh passport for my daughter and reissuance for my wife in Pune?
2. Can I get both these passport applications processed parallaly?
3. Does the above address proofs sufficient for my daughter’s passport?
4. Does the above address proofs sufficient for my wife’s passport?
5. Do I need to specify that I am staying only since 6 months since I have bank statement for 12 months on same address?
6. In case I need to declare my earlier address of Delhi, what document proof I need to submit? As I don’t have any latest document for that address?
7. Since I am staying in rented place, do I need to declare Permanent address and if any verification will happen there?
8. Because of this situation, is it possible to get Tatkal passport issued and whether it will take more time?
9. Do I need to submit Annexure F for Tatkal Passport both for my minor daughter and wife?
10. For my daughters passport do I need to submit any document related to my wife?
11. Can I enter similar email id for my daughter and wife while applying for the passports as I do not have separate email ids for them
12. I was trying to fill my daughter’s application online. In the “Present Residential address details” header in the “Residing Since” column, as soon as I fill August 2012 (when my baby was born), I am prompted to fill “Earlier residential address” as a compulsory field. I guess the software is programmed to verify only whether applicant has stayed in “Present Address” for less than 1 year, with no over-ride for Minors below 1 year. And it is not allowing to save/submit the form without filling “Earlier address”!!! Please guide on this as well.

In regard to a minor applying for a Tatkal passport at Passport Seva Kendra Mumbai one needs to furnish birth certificate,both parents passport with spouses name included(Compulsory) ,Annexure” H ” signed by both parents,a passport size photograph and a fee of Rs.3000.Photographs of minors below 4 years is not taken and hence you must go with a clear passport size photograph.Annexure F is not required for a minor.For Minors and Sr. Citizens it is a fast proceess and doe not take more than 30 to 45 mins.
